Soup Supper and Book Study - Risking Hope: Entering the Passion of Jesus

In the last week of Jesus’ ministry, everything is at stake: his reputation, his friends, and even his life. In this study, we will look at the events of “Holy Week” as recounted in the gospels, explore questions of history and meaning, and reflect on what it means to follow Jesus on this risky path. Our primary resource will be Entering the Passion of Jesus, by Jewish scholar Amy-Jill Levine.

Lectio Divina/Epiphany Study

Lectio Divina is an ancient meditative and prayerful reading of scripture that seeks to rest in the divine presence, in order to hear and be touched within by the word of God. Developed in the third century, it became part of Monastic practice, and was recovered with the renewal of meditative practices in the 2oth century.

In these four sessions, we will ponder four traditional Epiphany texts which tell of the “revelation” of the Divine in Jesus of Nazareth. We will also experiment with Visio Divina, a form of that uses visual images for meditation and contemplation.

Candlemass Sunday

Join us as we celebrate the Presentation of Christ, or "Candlemass", with a blessing of candles! This feast day takes its name from the words of Simeon as he meets the infant Jesus and his family in the temple, and declares him to be "a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel".
